GABRIEL DIALLO AND ALEXIS GALARNEAU TO PLAY AT THE DRUMMONDVILLE NATIONAL BANK CHALLENGER

Nov 03, 2023

[MONTREAL, QC] October 26, 2023 — Tennis Canada announced on Thursday the list of players set to take part in the 2023 Drummondville National Bank Challenger. The event, which has been part of the ATP Challenger Tour since 2015, will be played out of the Tennis intérieur René-Verrier in Drummondville, Quebec, from November 13 to 19.

“We are thrilled to reveal a strong player list that not only includes a great mix of up-and-coming players and seasoned veterans but also showcases the top talent in our country, ” said Francis Milloy, Tournament Director of the Drummondville National Bank Challenger. “This event will bring the Canadian tournament season to a fitting conclusion by offering the fans high-level tennis to enjoy.”

Looking to become the eighth champion in Drummondville is World No. 79 Dominik Koepfer of Germany. Koepfer, who will have the top-seed honours, has two Challenger titles to his name this season – in Mexico City, Mexico and Turin, Italy. Joining him atop the player list are fellow Top 150 players – Frenchman Benoit Paire (No. 123), Australia’s James Duckworth (No. 125), and Canadian Gabriel Diallo (No. 133).

Diallo, 22, claimed the second Challenger title of his career earlier this month at the event in Bratislava, Slovakia. His compatriot Alexis Galarneau, the World No. 185 and tournament No. 6-seed, will also be stepping onto the courts in Drummondville as he has his eyes set on capturing his second Challenger title. Diallo and Galarneau both won their inaugural Challenger titles at the Granby National Bank Championships, in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 8 seeds are Great Britain’s Ryan Peniston (No. 187), and Belgian players Zizou Bergs (No. 184) and Kimmer Coppejans (No. 191). Peniston will look to extend his win streak on Canadian soil after winning all five of his matches this summer en route to claiming the Winnipeg National Bank Challenger.

Since the first edition of the tournament, Drummondville has crowned two Canadian singles champions – Denis Shapovalov in 2017 and Vasek Pospisil in 2022. In addition to Diallo and Galarneau who hope to get added to this exclusive list, Toronto’s Steven Diez is also scheduled to play at the event.
